Summary/Abstract: On account of the fact that Petersburg occupies an important place in Konstanty Fofanov’s (1862–1911) literary production, the author of the article analyzes the problem in the context of so-called “Petersburg text” which takes into consideration realities of architecture, climate and living conditions. The article reveals that Fofanov – an advocate of “pure art.”, in his perception of Petersburg along with its magnificent monuments of architecture and picturesque settings pays more attention to inhabitants’ living and their problems, which brings him closer to Fiodor Dostoyevsky.
