Summary/Abstract: The paper explores the word-formation productivity of simple (primary) nouns on the basis of body part lexemes such as the German Kopf, Haupt and the Bulgarian глава. The analysis focuses on word-formation nests/paradigms, comprising constructions of various structural complexity. They all share a common stem, namely the aforementioned body part lexemes. The study outlines major semantic patterns which denote ways of nomination, possible interpretations of the meaning of word-formative constructions, as well as differences in the productivity of body part vocabulary in the process of forming new nouns, adjectives and verbs in German and Bulgarian.
