Summary/Abstract: John III the Terrible; heregia; akche; monetary reform; Ottoman rule; Turkish warThe article is a publication of two copper coins of Voivode John III the Terrible (1572—1574) recently found in Golaya Pristany (Kherson Oblast, Ukraine) and in Belogorsky Raion (Crimea), places far away from the borders of medieval Moldavia. Iconography of coins and their legends combine local traditions with borrowed elements, which reflect international contacts of Moldavian state and carefully thought actions of its ruler. Penetration of these coins to the east, apparently, must be explained through consequences of Moldavia’s hard defeat in the war with the Ottomans in 1574, when the country was plundered by the Crimean Tartars.
