Summary/Abstract: The article concerns the impact of the Bible to life and work of Stefan Żeromski, who lived at the time of ideological transformation. Among the various literary sources that inspire Polish artists at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the Bible holds a special place. The Bible has is considered higher than literature. The Bible is the inspiration for Stefan Żeromski. Throughout his life Żeromski fights with your soul. Żeromski yearns for the sacrum, so it is looking for. The writer lives in an era in which educated people should not pronounce the name of God. The whole work of the writer seems to “fight with Satan”. Personal experience of the writer have an impact on the survivals of his literary characters. At the Żeromski’s work can be found many biblical’s accents. They are the result of in-depth personal reading and study of the Bible. Żeromski is interested in the Bible thanks of Fr. Czerwiński, who was a catechist in writer’s school in Kielce. Important was also a faith, which he has taken from his family home. Stefan Żeromski never managed to control the chaos of inner life. Żeromski’s world was a world of religious anxiety and constant searching for answers to religious questions troubling him. This world is a reality in spite of appearances, where the sacrum presence is discernible in the various levels of the organization literary work.
