Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to a remarkable site of the Hellenistic epoch, a burial crypt No. 1012, built under the defence wall, discovered in Chersonese of Taurus in 1899. The honor of this discovery belonged to C.C. Costsiushko-Valiuzhinich, outstanding Chersonese researcher of the late XIX – early XX c. The article reveals a centennial evolution of scholars’ opinions on the peculiarities of the crypt as a construction of burial architecture, on its possible belonging to certain historical personalities (e.g. Agasicle). At the end, it offers a supposition that the crypt was a burial place of women representing priestly cast.
