Summary/Abstract: Lapidaria by Ryszard Kapuściński is a series of six volumes. The first of them appeared on the book market in 1990. The next five were published during a period of seventeen years. It is an impressive collection of texts which are very unique to Polish cultural tradition. It refers to various literary genres. It contains elements of essay, reportage, diary and parable. The author uses colloquial, scientific, artistic and journalistic style. Each of six books consists of fragments written under different circumstances. Consequently the main feature of Lapidaria is a variety of forms and subjects. The paper is an attempt of characteristic of the series in the aspect of structure and language, based on linguistic and literary studies dedicated to Ryszard Kapuściński.
