The „football-press” in Cluj in the 1895–1914 period

Summary/Abstract: The press of Hungarianlanguage between the years of 1895–1914 from Kolozsvár started to report of the football from the city not long after the first ball was brought to Kolozsvár. The contemporary daily newspapers,among of them the Ellenzék, wrote about the development of the sport starting from the school level football through the appearance of the first football sections and teams until the organization of the championship of Transylvania and the first international matches in the city. The local sport press played an important role in the popularization of football. In most part of the articles it accommodated to the requirements and ethics of the contemporary press.
