Summary/Abstract: None political system has been necessarily ascribed definition of freedom. It means that every political system (regardless of the model into which we would classify it) has capability to either enlarge or limit the sphere of individual freedom. Therefore if democratisation of political systems classified as totalitarian is possible, so is the totalitarisation of the systems defined as liberal democracies. Such assumption implies thesis that democratic political systems having totalitarian features are probable. The most radical formulation of the primary thesis reads as follows: in capitalist democracies the power is exercised through totalitarian methods The main mechanisms of social control are ideological domination and processes of progressive bureaucratisation and technologisation of the social life. The issue of shaping and functioning of the totalitarian capitalist democracies may be reduced to three, mutually linked aspects, namely: political, technological-administrational, and psychological.
