On the strengthening of the meaning of words (in connection with the work of G. Sekei)

Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the books written by Gábor Székely on lexical semantics. The Hungarian linguist focuses on the quantitative changes (the intensification or weakening) of one and the same quality (of word meaning), on the one hand, in the paradigm (warm > hot, cf. dictionaries of synonyms), and, on the other hand, in syntagmatics (warm > very warm, cf. dictionaries of intensifying word combinations).
