Department „General Economic Theory” in the Period After 1990 – Third Stage of the 80-Years History of the Department

Summary/Abstract: The paper analysis the development of Department “General Economic Theory” in the period after 1990, which period is the third stage of the historical development of the department. The publication is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Department, which is celebrated in 2017. The author deals with the educational work and the research work of the Department in the period under discussion, the accent being on the profound reform in higher economic education in Bulgaria after 1990 as a reflection of the change of the economic system. The main steps of the reform in the Department “General Economic Theory” are revealed. The period is assessed critically by the author, who points out not only the accomplishments, but also the shortcomings of the transformation process.
