Summary/Abstract: Purpose of Article. The goal of the article is to study the certain features of citation. Citation is one of the artistic techniques of «double coding» in the art of Postmodernism. Methodology. The methodology of the article is based on a systemic approach that reveals the features of citation as one of the artistic techniques of «double coding» in the postmodern musical works. Scientific Novelty. Based on the analysis of examples of musical creativity attempts to show that the quote and its variety of artistic techniques are an allusion to the «double coding». It is proved that the citation influences the process of «double coding» in music. The citation is included in the musical creativity. The main manifestations of it are composer’s writing of artwork with direct and indirect quotation; executor’s coding-decoding of a new product with known and unknown Quote; a listener’s decoding of the composing and performing interpretation of artistic works involving intra and extra-musical strategies. Conclusions. The logic of the process of «double coding» in music by its nature is complex, intonation and substantial. It is associated with sequential processing of musical experience by incorporating memory, establishing links among music, a broad historical, cultural context and individual psychological experience. Citation and, its kind, allusion as artistic techniques perform a combination of musical codes of the Past with the Present. The complex process of perception, decoding and processing of the new musical material with the playback code or codes, quotations, allusions in the new text features reveal a «double coding» of postmodernism in music. All musical styles and compositional creativity are products of mental activity, so in decoding the content of works is involved the whole spectrum of knowledge from simple tasks to complex sensations of musical intelligence, including memory, attention, emotions, perception, and interdisciplinary communication.
