Innovative potential of Lower Silesian voivodship against the Europaen Union regions

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the innovation potential of the Lower Silesian voivodship against the background of the EU regions based on the results of the European Commission. According to the adopted methodology in these studies, the Lower Silesian voivodship consistently since 2004 (similarly to Poland) has been in a group of moderate innovators reaching a comparable level in the range of innovation as Śląskie and Małopolskie voivodships, as well as some regions of Spain, amongst others, Castilla-La Mancha and Region de Murcia. Relatively good results of the Lower Silesian voivodship on the background of the country and Europe included the level of employment in knowledge-intensive activities and human resources for science and technology. However, the weakness of the Lower Silesian voivodship was the level of enterprises activities in terms of innovation, amongst others, low expenditure on R & D and intellectual assets
