Summary/Abstract: The author considers artisanal weights-exagies made from disused antique coins. On the grounds of material, collected on the Taman Peninsula, he makes an attempt to establish the time of their existence and relationship with the coins made of precious metals, which had circulated on the Bosporus in the Middle Ages. The histogram obtained by weighing 1200 surrogate exagies demonstrates the most frequently used weight standards. The author also attempts to explain the reason of this wide spread of the surrogate exagies in the region.
