Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the materials of the Mesolithic culture of Veretie in the north-east of European Russia, which shed some light on the socialization of children in the societies of that period. Bows, axes and other objects, remarkable for their small size but in all other respects identical to the tools used by adults, were found at the settlement of Veretie 1 and at some other sites. They seem to have served to train children in hunting and other practices necessary in everyday life.
