Summary/Abstract: A contribution for the study of verbal proxemics in Portuguese: distance, proximity, enunciation, interlocution. Portuguese language has a wide range of “formas de tratamento” (address terms) and interlocution markers which aptly express the regulation of verbal proxemics (distance and proximity) at discursive level. How can we articulate the study of proxemic markers of a language, their enunciative / co-enunciative actualisation with the respective discursive functioning (in spoken and in written language)? To elucidate this question, a semantic-pragmatic model of verbal proxemics is proposed and applied to a textual analysis of the discursive construction of interlocutive distancing, contact and approaching in Portuguese.
