Summary/Abstract: The article presents a core moment in the history of political economy in Hungary. It demonstrates how the political economic criticism of state socialism changed accordingly to those structural junctures, which we identified in the introduction to the present issue as shaping the position of Hungary within the global world system. The case in question is that of the Pénzügykutatási Intézet [Financial Research Institute] and its employees, who, during the process of the Hungarian regime change, became known as the „reform economists”.
