Summary/Abstract: The life and works of Mikhail Dmitrievich Skobelev, who was one of the most important figures in the 19th century Tsardom of Russia, still hold their value in the world of science and politics in today’s Russia. For instance, on the 27-28th of September 2013, International Applied Science Conference entitled “Mikhail Dmitrievich Skobelev: History and Today” took place in Ryazan, Russia. In the conference, not only was Skobelev was studied from various aspects, but also his period 19-20th century’s international politics, modernization, and reforms dealt in many scientific articles were collected and made into a book. What caught our attention is the author V.V. Abolmasov’s article entitled “Great Eastern Crisis in the United Kingdom’s Foreign Affairs in the Late 19th Century.” In the article, the political attitudes of the period’s active players being United Kingdom, Ottoman Empire, Russia, Germany, Austria-Hungary, were analyzed. Especially, as can be understood by its name, England’s enterprises in Ottoman territory breaking into pieces to gain more authority in Middle East, along with its efforts in weakining the Russian influence in territories that reached “freedom,” and its politics in taking control of the Straits were observed from a different perspective. The work we have translated really proves the expression “History repeats itself” right. We can see from the Russian researcher's point of view how much the game being played on Turkey today is similar to the one played during the Ottoman period.
