The Creation of the European Economic Area (EEA)

Summary/Abstract: The long-term cooperation between the EuropeanFree Trade Association (EFTA) and the European Economic Community (EEC) – that has meanwhile become the EuropeanUnion (EU) – led to the creation of a complex economic setting, the biggest in the world when the agreement was signed at Porto inMay 2002 . This short article summarizes the evolution of these two European organizations from the perspective of their commonproject: the European Economic Area (EEA).
