Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the relations between the ceremonies surrounding the inauguration of Constantine's newly established city and the local mythological tradition of the original foundation/re-foundation of the ancient Byzantium and the specific role of the central solar deity of the city Zeuxippus, identified by the local Thracian population with Helios/Zeus (Jupiter) – Helios.Typologically, this ideologem follows the archaic traditional pattern of identification of the Hellenic oikist with the local hero-eponym. This theatralized imitatio and resurrection of the foundation’s precedent and the first founder of the city by Emperor Constantine I the Great is perceptible in several fragmented preserved reports of the early Byzantine authors.
