Issues of the Representation of Unaccompanied Minor

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the representation of unaccompanied minors in the procedures of granting international protection as regulated by the Bulgarian Refugees and Refuge Law (last amendments of 2015). A comparison is made with the respective refugee law of the European Union (three directives and the Regulation Dublin 3). Special attention is given to the functions of the representative, to the criteria of his/her appointment by the mayor of the municipality, the best interests of the child as a primary consideration in the appointment as well as during the representation. Proposals a made for legislative changes.
