Summary/Abstract: The media are a stage, a tribune, a star factory. Stars are the product not only of journalist stories and their own efforts, but also of the times, the public interest and expectations. The image of a celebrity intertwines characteristics of familiar and liked models, and the unique features distinguishing the new star. The speech characteristics of a celebrity are one of the multiple features that build its attractiveness and make it distinguished. This article analyses and proves that the speech characteristics are an important element of the image of a celebrity. Cases from the Bulgarian public scene with typical speech are studied. The speech of the Cuban dancer Alfredo Torres is analyzed at the phonetic, morphological and syntactic level. His unique way of speaking, a consequence of his foreign origins, that adds to, emphasizes and highlights the attractiveness of Torres, is a bright example of the term “interlanguage“, introduced by the American applied linguistics professor Larry Selinker. The study is conducted over an interview with the dancer published in EVA magazine in April 2014 in which his way of speaking is used as a distinguishing characteristic that makes his image unique
