Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the specificity, qualities, links, and differences in cultural expression of the phenomena of game and theatre. By means of reviewing different philosophical, cultural scientific, and aesthetical theories (J. Huizinga, F. Schiller, H. Spengler, E. Fink, Aristotle, L. Vygostsky, etc.) of game and theatre, the author seeks to discuss, compare, and highlight the principal qualities of game and theatre and to identify their intersections and essential differences. The review of different game and theatre theories results in the identification of essential similarities between game and theatre: specific time and space, singularity, tension or catharsis, a fight or a conflict, valid rules or stage laws, seeking to show and to show oneself, as well as the participant community. The principal difference is the issue of communication. One can, in certain cases, play a game alone, without any direct contact with people; at the theatre, however, communication is a must. Whenever the interrelation of actor and audience is absent, the instance of acting is considered not having taken place.
