Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the study is to highlight the problem of imaginative thinking training for future directors, the ability to reconstitute real, unreal and imaginary reality on the stage as well as to transform it by means of a metaphorical language. Methodology. The research methodology consists of analytical, functional, comparative and art research methods to study the new means of directors’ and actors’ creation as masters of performing arts. Scientific Novelty. The scientific novelty of the research is to analyse the new subject «Experimental Directing» for students who study directing and in the creation of the appropriate scientific and methodological package. Conclusions. The author makes the following conclusions. Firstly, the imaginative nature of the theatre, as a sign of his highest artistic worth, is remaining aesthetic dominant of the Ukrainian stage and signalling the most significant gap in the national education for directors. Secondly, the non-verbal means are five times more informative than verbal ones. It can explain the extraordinary power of metaphorical theatre’s influence on the audience. Thirdly, Its evidence is the famous stage directors` poetic vocabulary. Fourthly, the main objectives of the course are the study of the history of theatrical imagery; the digestion of the basic concepts of visual means of expression such as theatrical tropes (metaphor, allegory, symbol, hyperbole, litotes, etc.); the digestion of the experience of prominent directors of metaphorical direction, the development of the imaginative director's vocabulary for students and the embodiment of acquired knowledge in practical experimental works by students.
