Summary/Abstract: One of Archbishop Andrey Sheptytsky’s main goals was to unite the Church. However, he emphasised that he did not want everyone to become Roman Catholics, but to be united with the Bishop of Rome, preserving their own rites. In order to realise his intentions, he established relationships with many Orthodox Church hierarchs. His actions did not bring the intended results, though. One of the major reasons for that was the fact that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was headed by Russians, who had no cause to act in favour of the Ukrainian nation’s interests.
