Summary/Abstract: The process of creating a dance production is connected with the choreographer, but the répétiteur also has a very important role in staging the work for performance. The répétiteur position stands alongside that of the choreographerin the ballet hierarchy, with the répétiteur preparing, shaping and working on the technical-artistic concepts of the work with performers (soloists as well as the ensemble). The répétiteur has the overall responsibility for the quality of the performance, considering the multi-facted nature of the work involved in rehearsing for a ballet. It is imperative for the répétiteur to possess a psychological-pedagogical knowledge and dexterity that will assist in his or her method of transfering of the skills required for ballet performance. Relying on the foundations of their knowledge and a serious approach towards their work, the task of répétiteurs is to set high demands, but also to respect the artist(s) with whom they are working. Répétiteurs determine: the content of the rehearsal, methods of teaching, the time needed to get to the best result, and the dynamic and the intensity efforts. A répétiteur’s authority, capacityto produceprecise and high quality work, organizational and personal qualities, and ability todraw out the individual characteristics of dancersmakes a significant impression on a production and determines its quality. It is particularly important to identify the elements that are part of this process, and these elements will be elaborated in detail in the course of this essay.
