Summary/Abstract: Yugoslavia’s postwar economic and social development has been very dynamic. Taken as a whole, this has been a period of far-reaching socio-economic change and transformation aimed at facilitating development of new technology. The most salient feature of the structure of the Yugoslav economy before the war was its extensive and technologically backward agriculture. Industrial production was confined to a number of light industries (textiles, footware, basic processing of agricultural products, etc.). The small number of relatively large industrial enterprises (mainly controlled by foreign capital) chiefly produced raw materials and a limited range of simple semi-manufactures.
