Summary/Abstract: This article deals with one of the early stages in the history of Bulgarian lexicography in Ukraine. The earliest dictionaries were published in the 1930s. They were rather brief and never reprinted. The article’s main focus is on the work of the first Bulgarian and Soviet linguist Delcho Peyov Drinov (1893–1936). He worked at several institutions of higher learning in Kiev where he taught Bulgarian from 1919 until 1930. Later on he did research and produced textbooks in Bulgarian and Ukrainian. In addition, he authored the first Ukrainian-Bulgarian dictionary for Bulgarians living in Ukraine’s rural districts.
