Names and Surnames in the Karaites

Summary/Abstract: Names and especially surnames are very important in ethnic studies. Family names, nicknames of families and their origins contain significant information. Given the names and especially surnames of the Crimean Karaites, these are: (1) formed with mostly Turkish or Turcisized words, (2) bear linguistic and ethnic particularities special to the Kipchak Turkish. (3) Except the religious terms and words, there are few loanwords from foreign languages, (4) a more determinant national culture conservation is observed in female names, (5) Everybody has a secondary name.
