Summary/Abstract: During the 20th century, one has witnessed the rise of independence claims of the ethnic groups and national minorities who have longtime lived in the main nation-state for years. These national minorities and ethnic groups have even desired to build up their own independent nation-states and did not hesitate to form their violent and armed groups to fight for independence. What did change and the paradigms of the 20th century differed from those of the 19th century? The aim of this paper is to study the case of Basque people, one of those ethnic groups which, for decades, fought against the Spanish nation-state to get its independent state and to analyze the problems of living together between these ethnic groups, national minorities and the majority peoples.
