Summary/Abstract: An aim of considerations undertaken in the article was to assess the Common Agricultural Policy as regards manufacturing local food products and to analyse the issues connected with consumers’ interest in this category of products. The author presented findings of quantitative surveys on purchasing decisions made by inhabitants of Poznan, Lublin and Szczecin as regards local and regional foods. The resolute preferences related to the place of food origin are displayed by less than 40% of respondents, while the majority of this group prefers domestic products over foreign ones. Local food is the most popular among inhabitants of Lublin and Poznan, while the least among Szczecin inhabitants. Most often for regional products reach individuals whose financial conditions is average or poor. Such declarations made by respondents may mean that food of the local origin is perceived as cheaper. The data analysis shows that there is the need to undertake measures leading to greater consumer awareness as regards local products and easing manufacturers production thereof and unification of the procedures of qualifying food articles to this category. However, first of all, it is necessary to work out and consistently apply the commonly binding definition of the local product. The article is of the research nature.
