Summary/Abstract: The most important factor of the acquisition order of words is children’s cognitive process. The children have no knowledge about any concept as well as they can not acquire the meaning of the concepts. This determination is also acceptable for the spatial words. Most of the literature on this area argues that the acquisition of the spatial words is directly related with cognitive ability independent from the different structural features of the languages. However this point of view can be supported by the studies on the language acquisition periods of the different typological languages. In this study, according to Johnston & Slobin (1979), spatial word usage of 10 Turkish children who are in the acquisition period among 3;0-4;0 ages has been described. The basic finding of this study is the increasing the usage of spatial words among the children who are on the language acquisition period dependent upon the age. Furthermore, children tend to use the spatial words with their lexicalized form.
