Summary/Abstract: In this work the author analyzed notions of liberalism and democracy which represent components of liberal democracy, socio- political order that is considered to be the optimal structure for the institutionalisation of freedom. Therefore, according to many theoreticians, liberal democracy represents political ideal which has prevailed over other political ideologies, and that may be the reason why we should strive for it. Consequently, it is of great importance to research the essence of liberal democracy and its mechanisms for achieving this goal. Firstly, the author inquiries normative conceptions of liberalism and democracy, and afterwards possible relations between them. The purpose of this work is to show, on the basis of these analyses, why liberal democracy could be considered to be the optimal political order for the realizing of freedom, and what are the values and ideals of this structure that are actually civilization achievements.
