Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes different theoretical approaches to the phenomenon of leadership. It is noted that the modern paradigm tends to understand leadership as good management. This conceptual constellation, which is a product of industrial society, its culture and organization, emphasizes different styles and performance (effectiveness) measurement as the cardinal qualities of meaningful leadership. In contrast to such position, post-modern paradigm is determined in more substantive way, as the interaction between leaders and followers, marked by the intention to change, and based on ethical assumptions and non-coercive influence (persuasion). The new paradigm articulates the critical dimension of leadership, its communal, social and political aspects, and treats it as a way to overcome collective action problems.
