Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyze Pinter’s play by using the existentialist paradigm. It seeks to prove that the themes of guilt and dehumanization taken from the existential philosophy are to be found in the play. The method used for finding the respective elements in the play is the contextual method. By using the existentialsist perspective while analyzing the play, characterisation of victims as well as their oppresors comes to the forefront. The process of dehumanization is given through the oppresors’s acts, and the consequences of such deeds are visible in victims. That is the reason Stanley is portrayed as dehumanized by his oppresors’ actions. The motif of dehumanization is supported by another motif – the motif of guilt. Its effects are to be seen in Stanley’s character. By being dehumanized as a result of the bestiality of his enemies, Stanley happens to be seen as a guilty person. Furthermore, he is found guilty for something he had not done and something he should not have been accused of at all. However, Stanley is not the only character who is overpowered by the process of dehumanization and guilt. This is why the existential contextual method has been applied.
