Fairytale Pepeljuga like folktale and fairytale

Summary/Abstract: This paper is a result of a research of the characteristics of folktale and fairytale. This research was conducted on the example of Cinderella in various forms. Differences and similarities between folktale Pepeljuga by Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic and artistic one by Charles Perrault and brothers Grim are researched by using a comparative method. In addition to the primary aspect which is research of Lipar / Journal for Literature, Language, Art and Culture 111 Бајка Пепељуга у народној књижевности и у уметничким варијантама the aforementioned differences and similarities between folktale and fairytale, this paper also presents theoretical knowledge of folktale and fairytale. The goal of this paper is to point out the traces of folklore elements in the artistic fairytale and also modifications and innovations which could happen. In conclusion, folktale, with all its features as an essential part, occupies a special place in literature. Fairytale with all its modifications stands as the proof that the elements of folktale are constant and could fit into different environments.
