Summary/Abstract: The study below focuses on the topic of ideas` protection by copyright law, with a special insight into ethics in PhD studies when speaking about whether or not are protected the ideas by copyright. The study covers topics such as: the idea – as a foundation of creations; condition of protecting ideas: their materialization; condition of the originality of creation/idea; the protection of idea when we talk about artistic creations; the protection of ideas in scientific works; the comparative analysis of legal provisions regarding the protection of ideas; a short perspective of plagiarism; a comparison of the property in civil law and the legal nature of copyright; the originality of the PhD thesis – a fundamental condition.
