Summary/Abstract: Between 7 and 9 May 1999, the Pope visited Romania. The Pope's visit had a special significance for the normalization of relations between the Romanian Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church and the Greek Catholic Church of Romania. Being the first visit of a Pope to a majority-Orthodox country, it has attracted the attention of the international press. The paper shows some of the echoes of this historic visit from 7 to 9 May 1999.
