Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to analyze the parallel, coexisting kinship terms in the Gagauz and some other Turkic peoples, that is, those terms that describe the same (or close) kinship relations. The carried out analysis of the kinship terminology of the Gagauz, together with materials in other Turkic languages, allows us to offer an alternative hypothesis. It lies in the fact that throughout the entire social history of mankind, there co-existed two kinship terminology systems. One of them largely reflects the social hierarchy, while the other the biological (genealogical) relations between people.
