Summary/Abstract: At the beginning, part of the variants of the folk ballad of „The Dead Brother” has been subjected to a literary and aesthetic analysis. It constituted the basis for P. Slavejkov’s „The Pestilent” – a ballad which he wrote in 1890. The second part of the article draws the attention upon the similarities and differences between the literary interpretation of the theme on the part of P. Slavejkov and the original source from folklore.
