Summary/Abstract: The article asserts that Russian education needs subject teachers possessing media competence, which is so important in the information society. Media criticism in the educational sphere is considered using the axiological approach to its development in the course of general secondary education. In addition, the paper presents the data from a survey among the school teachers of the Orenburg Region about media consumption and television news content.
