Summary/Abstract: Introduction. Corruption in the police is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon, which destroys the moral image of the public officer in the eyes of many citizens. Objective. The study conducted aimed at gathering the information on the perception of the traffic police corruption as felt by Warmia and Mazury residents as well as its significance, extent and assessment. Material and methodology. The analysis was based on anonymous surveys comprising 16 closed and semi-open questions. 75 male and 75 female residents of Warmia and Mazury participated in the survey. Results and conclusions. The study revealed that the majority of the survey participants are convinced of the high level of corruption among the officers performing traffic stops. Such opinions are based on own experience; as many as 42% of the participants know someone who has offered a bribe to police officers, and 14% of them were personally involved in the process. An overwhelming majority believe that increasing the number of penalty points for traffic offences and simultaneously decreasing the level of traffic fines are the most effective ways to combat corruption on Polish roads.
