Summary/Abstract: Stanisław Węsławski was born in Vilnius on 17 September 1896. Trained in law and music, he composed works for piano and songs to poems by Rainer Maria Rilke, Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna, Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska and Jan Kochanowski, among others. He was vice-chairman of the Vilnius Union of Singing and Music Societies, wrote music for Polish Radio in Vilnius and chaired the board of the Vilnius Branch of the Polish Society for Contemporary Music. He was also a member of the Vilnius Council of Artistic Societies (‘Erwuza’) and the board of the Vilnius Philharmonic Society, of which he was vice-chairman. Węsławski was murdered by firing squad in Ponary near Vilnius on 2 December 1942.
