Summary/Abstract: After the United Nations approved the Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict in 2009, Israel erupted in outrage over what they saw as yet another anti-Israel declaration. The Goldstone Report, the outcome of the investigation that documents a series of war crimes committed by Israel against civilians has been viewed as the apex of an international effort to delegitimize Israel. Delegitimization has come to mean whatever Israel deems to be an “intellectual assault” that denies its right to exist and has become its deepest insecurity. Following the approval of Richard Goldstone’s investigation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel must “delegitimize the delegitimization”. Yet, the only way Israel is confronting this issue is through efforts to undermine and ostracize their delegitimizers, as opposed to addressing the internal issues at the root of the criticism.
