Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the examination of cult sources in Vitebsk-Smolensk borderline. Field studies and the analysis of folklore-ethnographic material reveal that in the past and present cult sources perform the function of ritual centre where communication between God and Man takes place. Its aim is to eliminate misfortunes and illnesses. The frequency of legendary plot in the temple is a specific feature of local tradition. Regional specificity is also characterized by a number of sacred sources “pyatsinka” that refer to the picture of “Paraskyevy Pyatnytcy” to which people go on a pilgrimage on the 9th or the 11th Friday after Easter.
