Summary/Abstract: A contemporary family is currently in a “transition time,” experiencing deep structural changes. For the traditionalists these changes are a sign of serious crisis, if not a decline, of family. The ongoing changes in the family as a microstructure are however a consequence of transformations in macrostructures that are related to emergence of postmodern society with all its features and processes. “Traditional” family in fact is only an idealized form of a patriarchic family, characteristic of Western, modern societies. But a family as a whole is not being destroyed but transformed.Simultaneously with the family changing, the woman’s position is being changed. The article presents the troubles with partner relationships within the family, based on quantitative researches on a representative nationwide sample and qualitative researches on Polish families.
