Summary/Abstract: The author presents the "djamala" custom, revived in the village of N. Andriani, Greece, characterising it as a kind of zoomorphic masking with outspoken orientation to productivity, which is common in a fairly wide area: the whole of Southeastern Europe and as far as Austria to the northwest. Hailing the enhanced interest in traditional culture today, the scholar gives his backing to its study and its preservation, in all possible forms, as an expression of the ambition to study folk culture and history.
