Summary/Abstract: Victor Iancu was one of the most important aestheticians and specialists in compared literature in Romania. Unfortunately he is not very famous. He had specialized knowledge in universal literature and culture, he was especially fond of German culture due to his studies at the Munich University. He did his PhD studies in Munich from 1930 to 1936 and he studied subjects such as: Aesthetics, History of Religions, and Philosophy. He was fond of aesthetics so he conceived his PhD thesis using the phenomenological approach. His PhD thesis is entitled Die Bedeutung der Form in der Ästhetik; it is structured in the following chapters: History of the Concept of Form in Aesthetics, Critical Synthesis on Historical Research, Nature of Aesthetic Form, Problem of Internal Form, Significance of art form. On the 12th March 1938 he presented his PhD thesis at Munich University. Unfortunately, it remained unpublished due to the beginning of World War II. However, some fragments were translated in revista a lui Lucian Blaga’s Saeculum magazine. An important moment for Victor Iancu’s relationship with the European cultural space was his activity at the Literary Circle in Sibiu, where he offered advice on German culture to young people, together with Lucian Blaga. He also founded the university tradition in Timişoara, together with other professors. He was an associate professor at the Faculty of Philology, University of Timisoara.
