Summary/Abstract: “Greetings from Samokov” today sounds trivial but before the time of telephones, radio broadcast and television, the fastest way to inform relatives and friends where you are was the postcard. The development of tourism provoked the production of postcards with different motifs and images. Samokov became a part of this new fashion: there were local publishers of postcards with images of the town. The collection of the Historical Museum of Samokov contains postcards with images of the town, Borovec (Chamkorija), Govedarci, and Rila Mountain and some other illustrations. It has been compiled for more than 10 years and most of its cards are donations. Every postcard is catalogued according to strict rules. The principles of the world collectors are followed when the postcards are dated; the factors taken into account are: print techniques, dating of the signature, stamp, publishers’ texts. The postcards are valuable sources for the study of the changes of Samokov, of its architectures and general environment.
