Summary/Abstract: The presented scope of research, as well as research carried out by the author herself show the role of the family in the perceiving the experience the old age. family is very important source of social support for elderly people, who place great hopes in family during the process of ageing and later in old age itself. In spite of many on-going changes to the contemporary family like creation of nuclear families, divorces in general short-lived natrimonies), increasing number of single-parent households (mainly female), creation of reconstructed, adoptive and substitute families, elderly still remain an indelible part of family. Family creates an environment for the seniors to be active in helping therefore in sucessfull ageing process, solving problems and gives social support. Presented knowledge is important in perspective of on going process of ageing of society along with simultaneous decreas in population.
