Summary/Abstract: The issue of color in children’s clothing can be analyzed as part of the wider-range topic of children and color. This point of view applies to all areas related to the practical application of color in the child’s environment – such as clothing, design and architecture. Color in children’s clothing has several major functions. These are: aesthetic, constructive, psychological, educational, pedagogical, symbolic and semantico-communicative. Children have a perception of environment and colors which is very specific and completely different from that of adults. Various stages can be observed in the development of the color vision of different age groups, with respective changes in color preferences. Children learn to express themselves by colors, and when they are given the right to choose the colors of their clothes or of other surrounding objects, they become more confident and reveal their creative, intellectual and emotional potential much more successfully. Moreover, the choice of color can illustrate a number of emotions thatchildren find difficult to express. The role of the designer is also discussed: with his appropriate suggestions, he/she can contribute to the formation of the child as a personality in possession of both aesthetic culture and an adequate attitude towards color.
